It’s so easy to consider what we need to DO to work toward our dream life or vision for the future. You think and logically piece together the steps to get there. You may even lay those stepping stones out and feel good about the work ahead. Until you find yourself somewhere in the journey with one of any number of the following trip-ups:
- you’re moving the needle but still don’t feel happy about it
- you’re not moving the needle and losing faith
- you’re running out of steam/ideas
- you’re moving the needle but now feel overwhelmed
- you’re inconsistently seeing movement and lag
There’s nothing more effective to ignite our self doubt or sabotage quicker than the fear that our dream may either not come true, or if we reach it-it won’t be enough, or that we could lose it all in the pursuit, etc.
Does this pattern ever occur within you? Dreams get pulled off the shelf, dusted off, engaged until it brushes up against your fears and then it immediately gets collected for re-shelving. We tell ourselves we will reengage it when we:
- are good enough
- are qualified enough
- further along
- more ready
- more able
- have more time
Ever notice that this process doesn’t really ever breach the plateau? Want to know why? There IS an answer. And it actually does not involve another thing to DO about it.
It’s who you are BEING. It starts with your identity long before you ever give yourself something to do. It doesn’t matter what you DO if you don’t believe it will land. With each step you take forward, your disbelief is moving the dream a step further. One step further and one step further to go.
